Database Administrators ensure that the underlying technologies provide users with flexibility in the management, access, retrieval, sharing and configuration of the large amounts of data held by many systems. The job duties of a database administrator include design and maintain database architecture and data structures; implement and administer database documentation; guidelines, policies and procedures or test database system and upgrades.

Database Administrators may sub-specialise in areas such as performance database, tuning database or application database.

How to become a Database Administrator?

To become a database administrator, you would require a bachelor degree, preferably in a subject like computer science, information technology, or computer information systems, or higher; or at least 5 years of relevant experience. Sometimes experience or on-the-job training is needed in addition to a qualification.
