What does an Early Childhood Educator do?

Early Childhood (Pre-Primary School) Teachers teach the basics of numeracy, literacy, music, art and literature to students from the ages of 5 to around 12. The aim is to promote students' social, emotional, intellectual and physical development during these ages. The job duties of an early childhood educator include plan and implement developmental programs based on observation of individual children; observe and record children's growth, behaviour and development, and discuss these with parents; or integrate children with special needs into the program, modifying the program and the physical environment if necessary.

Teachers are required to monitor language development in young children and develop a variety of early childhood curriculum and methods, according to the students' needs.

How to become an Early Childhood Educator?

Most Early Childhood Educators hold a Bachelor's degree in early childhood education. Alternatively, you can complete a degree in a related field followed by a postgraduate qualification in education. Sometimes relevant experience or on-the-job training is also needed, depending on the country's registration requirements.
