What does a Sonographer do?
Sonographers operate ultrasound machines and related equipment to produce images for medical diagnostic purposes. The job duties of a sonographer include prepare and maintain imaging equipment, operate equipment to get diagnostic images of areas in the patient's body or conduct an analysis of images to provide preliminary findings for physicians.
Areas of specialisation may include abdominal, breast, musculoskeletal, obstetric and gynecologic, or cardiovascular and vascular.
How to become a Sonographer?
To become a sonographer, you would require a bachelor's degree or higher in medical radiation science or medical imaging at University level. Sometimes relevant experience or on-the-job training is needed in addition to the qualification. Registration or licensing may be required.
