Environmental Scientists study, assess, develop and advise on policies and plans for managing and protecting the environment, flora, fauna and other natural resources. The job duties of an environmental scientist include plan and conduct research into the physical and biological nature of the environment, investigate and report on breaches of environmental guidelines or assist with environmental emergencies such as chemical spills and accidents.

Environmental Scientists may specialise in ecology, biology, agriculture, conservation, resources, sustainability or geology.

How to become an Environmental Scientist?

To become an environmental scientist you usually have to complete a degree in environmental science, science or applied science with a major in environmental science, natural resource management, geography, marine science or a related field. Sometimes relevant experience or on-the-job training is also required.
