What does an Electrical Engineer do?

Electrical engineers design, develop and supervise the manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical systems. The job duties of an electrical engineer include plan and design power stations and power generation equipment; determine the type and arrangement of circuits, transformers, circuit-breakers, transmission lines and other equipment; or interpret specifications, drawings, standards and regulations relating to electric power equipment and use.

Electrical Engineer may specialise in bioengineering, circuits, communication systems, control systems, power and energy system, nanotechnology, etc.

How to become an Electrical Engineer?

To become an electrical engineer you usually have to complete an engineering degree at university with a major in electrical, electronic, electrical power, telecommunications and network, or communications engineering. Alternatively, you can complete a relevant degree, followed by a postgraduate qualification in electrical engineering. Experience is usually required for registration or licensing.
