What does a Civil Engineer do?

Civil Engineers plan, operate and maintain roads, bridges, dams, water supply schemes, sewerage systems, transportations systems, harbours, canals, dockyards, airports, railways, factories and large buildings. The job duties of a civil engineer include investigate sites to determine the most suitable foundation for a proposed construction; prepare engineering calculations required for the design of projects; or produce detailed designs and documentation for the construction and implementation of civil engineering projects.

Civil Engineer may specialise in construction management, environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, or water resources.

How to become a Civil Engineer?

To become a civil engineer you usually have to complete a degree in engineering at university with a major in civil engineering. Alternatively, you can complete a relevant degree, followed by a postgraduate qualification in chemical engineering. Experience is usually required for registration or licensing.
